Killing the Cravings With One Week of Low-carb, Whole Grain Living
Do you have intense food cravings even when you’re not hungry? Sometimes such cravings can be attributed to “emotional eating,†but sometimes cravings happen even when you’re feeling emotionally and spiritually balanced. You feel like you could eat your way through a six-line buffet and then stop for ice cream on the way home.
My experience, and that of my clients, is that cravings are caused by eating carbohydrates, especially sugar, and often bread or pasta. As Jacque said about the intensity of her cravings, “Heaven help the poor sucker who gets between me and that brownie.â€
Some who have tried the high-protein/low-carb diets report that the greatest appeal is the decrease in cravings. Yet some of these diets just go against common sense. Don’t tell me that I shouldn’t have an apple and can eat all the pork chops I want. I’m sorry, that just defies logic.
To help kill the cravings, I created a week-long, low carb, whole grain diet that I call the I-Week diet. You get great nutrition for few calories, and have a diet that makes complete sense and is easy to accommodate. You eat very simply. There are other benefits to the I-Week diet, too, including losing a couple of pounds without counting calories and while managing your energy level. And you will find these low carb, whole grain changes easy to accommodate at restaurants and most gatherings.
The basis of the diet is that you eat all the low carb (non-starchy) vegetables, fruit, lean protein, and whole grain brown rice (or, possibly, other whole grains, if you choose) that you want. Have starchy vegetables and olive oil in moderation. Eliminate all sugar and flour, and watch your cravings disappear along with it.
There are some variables that you will decide—how much dairy, processed food, and other whole grains to include. When I practice this diet, I try to eliminate dairy and processed food because a primary benefit for me is managing my energy level along with my cravings. You can get more guidelines and recipes for low carb, whole grain, craving-curbing eating by visiting http://www.reasonablediet.com/i-week. There you can also find out why I call it the I-Week diet.
Whether you follow the plan or not, you will enjoy these low carb, whole grain recipes that many reasonable dieters incorporate into their routine even after their I-Week diet.

Baked Whole Grain Brown Rice
I didn’t cook much brown rice when it required hours of pot-watching. Then I discovered this. Extremely simple, it gives the whole grain rice a great texture and nutty flavor.
1 1/2 cups whole grain brown rice, uncooked
2 1/2 cups water
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. olive oil
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine ingredients in an eight inch covered baking dish, or a baking dish tightly covered with aluminum foil. Bake for one hour. Remove from oven and if not serving immediately, place rice in colander and rinse with cold water. Drain. Rice can be stored in refrigerator for up to one week or frozen in individual servings and reheated in microwave.
Since the whole grain brown rice might be the only grain you’re having, you’ll find yourself craving it often (but hopefully not craving any of the bad stuff!). Following are two very simple recipes.
—
Quick Rice and Beans
1/4 cup baked whole grain brown rice, prepared
1/2 cup beans
1 dash hot sauce, to taste Â
Combine ingredients in a non stick skillet and heat through.
Optional additional ingredients: onions, peppers, tomatoes, eggs, broccoli, spinach or other vegetables.
—
Sweet Spiced Rice
1/2 cup baked whole grain brown rice prepared
1/2 cup soy milk
1 pinch cinnamon
1/2 pinch nutmeg
2 Tbs. dried cranberries Â
Combine all ingredients in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Simmer until all soy milk is absorbed. Replace the cranberries with raisins with other dried or fresh fruit (such as 1/2 cup apple or banana slices). Add a low carb sweetener of your choice to taste (Splenda, Nutrisweet, etc.), if desired.
Most meals on the I-Week diet will be centered around vegetables, which are the ultimate low carb foods, whether they be salads, vegetable soup, stir fry, or roasted vegetables. Then add the whole grain rice and some lean protein to any of these to make it a meal.
Primarily, your lean protein will include baked, grilled, broiled, boiled or canned chicken, fish or seafood. It can also include tofu, beans or eggs. (You can combine egg whites with whole eggs to keep the calorie count lower.) Think of beans first, since they offer the most nutrients for the fewest calories. All of these selections are naturally low carb.
I bake chicken and tofu at the beginning of the week. I open two cans of beans (black, pinto, kidney, garbanzo or cannellini beans), rinse and drain them, and store them in my refrigerator.
If you’re eating at a restaurant, you can usually find a simple lean protein and vegetable of some sort, and whole grain brown rice is often available. Think ahead and decide if you want to have a bowl of soup before you go, so that you’re not too hungry when the bread arrives and can resist the carb-induced cravings.
There are two keys to making the I-Week Diet work for you. One is preparation. Have the basics prepared in advance. The other is acceptance. Remember that your commitment is just for one week so that you can truly enjoy no cravings and bring your thinking and relationship with food back into perspective. When food is this simple, it takes a lot of the romance, and consequently the craving, out of it. That can be a good thing.
At http://www.reasonablediet.com/iweek you’ll find recipes, menu plans, and ideas about how to follow up the I-Week diet so that you can retain the sense of serenity you enjoyed while eating in this wholesome, simple, low carb, whole grain way.

Why should you cut out grains and sugars if you have hyperhidrosis?
And what else will work to get rid of hyperhidrosis??? please help me! and i told my parents i had it but they kinda blew it off and forgot about it-they dont know it is a big problem. i need help reminding them about it but its embarassing. any ideas?
I’m not quite sure if you should cut out grains and sugars from your diet. It will be quite hard to cut these out of your diet. I believe you would need supplements. For this you should see a special doctor or nutritionist/dietition to see if grains and sugars are really affecting you via hyperhidrosis (HH).
And indeed it is a big problem (for me too), and you should talk to your parents about it more often about HH and how it’s affecting you.
Here’s link to alternative treatments:
http://www.socialphobiaworld.com/postt6814.htm
Then there is the ETS surgery for HH.
If you hear the wonders of ETS, make sure you research it thoroughly before considering it. It may not be as wonderful as you think.
I hope this helps.

Beautiful Skin Made Easy With Simple Aromatherapy Blends
Looking for that perfect skin product? One that will keep your skin looking great, smells great, is appealing to apply, has actual ‘therapeutic’ effects, and doesn’t break the bank? Look no further than aromatherapy. Creating a wonderful blend just for your skin type with the magic of potent natural botanicals is fun and rewarding in more ways than one. Essential oils are widely used in natural medicine, and some are well-known for their skin rejuvenating effects.
While some of the most highly regarded therapeutic grade oils may seem expensive at first, they are effective in such small concentrations as to really make them worthwhile. And their efficacy is well-known; that’s why so many laboratory-made preparations use components of essential oils in their formulas. With a one or two ounce bottle to mix in, and an eye dropper, you can easily mix your own blend with the aroma and actions you desire most.
There are a few essential oils most often used in skin care recipes – you can pick and choose from among these depending on your desired results. Other essential oils may be added to enhance the aroma of your blend; many oils used to do so are also are know to relieve tension or bring about a healthy state of mind – and most natural clinicians will tell you that beauty starts from the inside-out. So make something you love the smell of that also helps your skin glow!
These few primary skin care oils include the following: Helichrysum italicum – the oil of this flower is one of the most highly regarded in aromatherapy for it’s great versatility. It has a pleasant aroma, it contains rare ‘di-ketones’ which stimulate the skin’s natural metabolism, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory (all tissue damage and aging is associated with inflammation on a cellular level). Lavender oil – ‘true’ or ‘French’ Lavender is the most used oil in aromatherapy today because of it’s great multitude of effects. Like Helichrysum, it contains regenerative ketones; it reduces inflammation; it speeds wound healing; AND it has an aroma very well known for its relaxing effects – easing tension while healing your skin – could you ask for more? Next up is Rosemary of the ‘verbenone’ type. It also contains ketones (that the cineol type does not) and is known as a circulatory and metabolism stimulant, increasing the flow of nutrients in, and waste products out, of your skin cells. Palmarosa essential oil is included in many blends for it’s gentle cleansing and antiseptic properties. And last but not least, Carrot Seed oil is the premier oil for regenerating tired, lifeless skin – often a result from too much stress or high levels of pollutant exposure.
There are several other oils with positive effects on the skin (some will be mentioned in the blends below), these just happen to be the most often used. With research, you can find essential oils that will address particular skin conditions that are not covered here. Further, there are in fact hundreds of essential oils available, each with it’s own unique composition and aroma. Adding a little to your blends simply for their fragrance influence is highly recommended. A few drops of precious oils like Jasmine, Neroli, Sandalwood or Rose can create that aromatic combination you simply love, and will want to wear all the time.
The essential oils are almost never applied to the skin undiluted (Lavender is a rare exception). Instead, they are added to what are known as ‘carrier’ or ‘base’ oils. Diluting the essential oil in carrier not only stretches your dollar, but the oils actually are more effective this way! Research has shown that most essential oils have the most dramatic therapeutic effects at concentrations of less than 5% of the total blend. And the carriers have their own positive effects; besides helping your skin absorb the essential oils, they provide nutrients such as essential fatty acids, and vitamin compounds which enhance the skin’s health.
Some of the more commonly used carrier oils in skin care are as follows: First is Hazelnut oil – pressed from, obviously, Hazelnuts. This is considered the most gentle of the carrier oils, suitable for all skin types. It often serves as the primary base oil in blends, making up a majority of the mixture. Next is Rosehip seed oil, pressed from Rosehip seeds grown in the mountains of South America. This well researched oil not only has a wealth of essential fatty acids, but contains trans-retinoic acid, a compound similar to the active ingredient of Retin-A (a well known wrinkle cream), but without the drying side effects. Lastly we’ll mention Evening Primrose oil, often included in blends for aging skin and for eczema – it has one of the highest known concentrations of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid which may be crucial to optimal health.
So there are the primary ingredients, and the reasons behind them. With these, and a few of your own personal touches, you can create a great variety of blends. To go ahead and start mixing, acquire a one or two ounce dark glass bottle to mix in, an eye dropper and a small funnel (you don’t NEED this, it just makes the whole process a lot less messy). For the first recipe, we’ll start with a blend that’s for daily use for all skin types. It’s created to give the skin health and vitality, while keeping it clean and beautiful: Pour one ounce of Hazelnut oil into your mixing bottle (double all the ingredients if you’d like to make two ounces). Add fifteen drops (about 2/3rds of a milliliter) Thyme essential oil of the Linalool chemotype (be sure to get this kind, as other types of Thyme are to strong to use on the skin). The add fifteen drops each of Rosemary verbenone, Neroli (or a high-quality Petitgrain – distilled from the same plant as Neroli with a lower cost), Spike Lavender (almost a cross between true lavender and sage – excellent for it’s antiseptic properties). While originally created as an acne-clearing blend, it did so well for so many folks it is now used as a basis for healthy ‘normal’ skin as well.
For overly sensitive and damaged skin (from chemicals or other means) and for skin with weak capillaries (showing spider veins may be a symptom), start with a 5:1:1 ratio of Hazelnut, Rosehip Seed and Evening Primrose oils (3/5 ounce Hazelnut, and 1/5th each of the other oils). Add fifteen drops each of German Chamomile, Helichrysum italicum, true Lavender, and Roman Chamomile. This blend will enhance the regenerative capability of the skin through the action of the Helichrysum and Rosehip seed, provides nutrients through in the Rosehip seed and Evening Primrose, and reduces the inflammation which accompanies any type of damage and aging.
For clearing excessively oily and acne-prone skin, to one oz. of Hazelnut oil, add fifteen drops each of Myrtle essential oil (use the green, rather than red, variety), Eucalyptus Dives, Spike Lavender, and Rosemary verbenone. The Myrtle is special in that it dissolves the sebum clogging skin pores, and the Eucalyptus calms the output of the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands.
If your skin has no particular ‘condition’, but appears tired, lifeless, pallid, or ‘worn out’, try mixing one-fifth ounce of Rosehip Seed and four-fifths ounce Hazelnut oil. Then add 15 drops each of Carrot Seed essential oil (also known as Queen Anne’s Lace or Wild Carrot), Lemon verbena (which helps the skin detoxify), Niaouli (gently tightening the skin), and Rosemary verbenone – this creates an excellent restorative blend. For aging skin needing firming that can be used around the eyes – try this more gentle variety: Mix in five ounces of Hazelnut oil and one ounce of Rosehip seed oil, add fifteen drops of each of Myrtle essential oil (green), Cistus or Rock Rose and Rosemary.
So there are a few tried-and-true aromatherapy skin care blends to use in your natural beauty regime. You can easily mix and match the oils described to create your own blend, and add any oils you really like the aroma of (be aware that a FEW essential oils are VERY strong, and should not be used on the skin – the more common of these include Cinnamon, Clove, Oregano, and Red Thyme – consult with a knowledgeable practitioner if you are unsure about the safety of any oil). A word about purchasing oils for your blends – do NOT use anything labeled as a ‘fragrance oil’ – these are synthetic reproductions of essential oils that will likely cause an allergic reaction. DO seek out a reputable source. And oils, like wine, do vary greatly from maker to maker. A higher price can mean a significantly nicer oil (though not always) – one that is sweeter, or more well-rounded – only a few oils should smell ‘medicinal’ – Spike Lavender is a little ‘camphorus’ in general – but a good Rosemary verbenone should have a very appealing scent . Despite the initial outlay, you are more likely to continue to use a blend that you really like the aroma of, and that has therapeutic effects. Though once you find the oils you adore, you’re more than likely to continue the practice of making your own blends for some time to come.

Chinese fried rice, secret in squeeze bottle?
I went to the Chinese takeout place the other day, ordered shrimp fried rice and watched them prepare my order. The woman fried up the ingredients and all of a sudden she grabbed a squeeze bottle (it was dark and loose liquid), when she poured it on the rice a nice aroma filled the place. Could it be a mixture of blend of oyster sauce, sesame oil and garlic?? If not, what is it? I’m trying to do this at home with no luck. It doesn’t taste the same. Help Please!
What I use to make my liquid is the following:
I start with hot water in a custard dish – about 1/4 full of hot water. I add 1 tsp of chicken base to that and stir. Then I add soy sauce (about 2-3 glugs), 2 glugs of oyster sauce, 5 drops of sesame oil, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp ground ginger, and some fresh ground black pepper. All that is then put in the squeese bottle and used as needed.
My best of all sauce to use, and the simpliest if you can find it, is a sauce called Ketjap Manis, Ketjap, or Catjap which is an Indonesian sauce (it’s kind of a sweet thick soy sauce). It is absolutely the best for fried rice (Nasi Goreng is the Indonesian name for it) and works wonders as a marinade for chicken and steak.
So, if you have an Oriental store near you, try to find that. If you don’t have it, use the above recipe. That sauce works great for stir-fries as well.
My Indonesian-Dutch neighbor would add a little sugar to the first recipe but I leave it out.

The Fibretrim slimming drink is unique because it has plenty of ingredients that promote losing weight, energy gain and other beneficial effects.
First of these fibretrim ingredients is the fibretrim zotrim formula. Zotrim is a known weight loss and appetite suppressing formula composed of extracts from medicinal plants which are, Yerbe Maté, Gurana and Damiana. Yerbe Maté helps alleviate fatigue, boost the body’s metabolism and suppresses appetite. Gurana has high caffeine content and its purpose is to stimulate the body or give it an energy boost. Damiana has compounds that fight fatigue, relaxes muscles an act as antioxidants.
All in all, the zotrim formula suppresses the appetite which keeps you from engulfing more calories than you need. It also gives you added energy to help you extend your workouts, exercises or household chores to help you burn more calories.
Fibretrim zotrim minimizes fatigue so you won’t feel so tired after a workout. What makes fibretrim different from other zotrim products out there is the addition of inulin. Diabetic’s Mandarin Orange Cake
One of the biggest complaints we diabetics have about cakes, is that they are so dry. Baking without sugar is a challenge as things don’t brown well without sugar and they are too dry without sugar. I took a great recipe I had for Mandarin Orange Cake and tweaked it until I came up with a diabetic version that is moist and pleasing to the palate. By adding Stevia*, you add some extra sweetness. Stevia is rather expensive but two packets is all you need. The addition of mayonnaise adds moisture and texture. When you remove the cake from the oven and prick it with a fork, be generous with the picks. This allows the wonderful sauce to run into the cake, thus increasing the moisture. Even my husband, who hates anything made without sugar, ate two or three pieces of this cake. My sixteen-year-old grandson loved it, too.
DIABETIC’S MANDARIN ORANGE CAKE
CAKE:
1 cup Splenda granular + 2 packets Stevia
1 cup flour
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt, optional
1 tbsp mayonnaise
11 oz can Mandarin oranges
Topping:
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp Splenda Brown Sugar Blend
2 1/2 – 3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp milk
To make the cake: Drain oranges and rinse with tap water; draining again. Put egg in a large mixing bowl and break it up with a fork. Add Splenda and mix well. Add Stevia, flour, soda and salt, if desired. Mix all together to blend. Add mayonnaise and oranges. Beat on low speed with an electric mixer for 3 minutes. Spray an 8×8-inch square pan with nonstick cooking spray. Pour batter into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven. Using a fork, puncture all over the top of the cake. Pour hot topping over the cake. Serve warm.
To make the topping: Combine all topping ingredients and bring to a boil in a small saucepan. Pour at once over the hot cake.
Note: Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans to the cake batter before baking, if desired.
Enjoy!

Bright orange-ish red sweet and sour sauce recipe?????
I am looking for the recipe for the really sweet bright orange-ish red sweet and sour sauce that you get from the cheap drive thru or delivery Chinese resturaunts. I have looked over soooo many different sweet and sour sauce recipes, and made a few but none are the copycat of the one you can get at these resturaunts. Idon’t think this one has and soy sauce or red pepper in it because it is so bright red-orange (like neon) and has no spice to it, just sweet, like the pinapple juice. PLEASE if anyone works in one of the drive-thru resturaunts or prepared a copycat recipe HELP!
Sweet and Sour Sauce
Ingredients

1/2 c Packed brown sugar
2 tb Cornstarch
1/2 c Cider vinegar
1 1/2 c Pineapple juice
2 tb Soy sauce
Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring, until it thickens and becomes clear.

Horseradish, Lemon Reduce Age Spots
Years of sun exposure and free radical damage can lead to flat brown spots on your hands, face, and body. While age spots are harmless, most people consider them an unwelcome sign of aging.
“Age spots are really sun-induced freckles,” said Robert E. Clark, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Unit at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. “They commonly appear on the backs of the hands.”
You can also see them along the shoulders (where someone has had significant sun exposure) and on the face. Age spots are common in older people but someone who’s had significant sun exposure can get them in their late twenties, thirties and forties.
Even a little bit of sun worshipping can cause age spots later in life. Sunlight contains ultraviolet rays that cause suntans and burns. As time goes by, tanning causes more pigment to be deposited in the skin. This eventually leads to flat, brown skin lesions known as age spots. They’re also called liver spots or sun spots.
The good news: age spots are harmless. They’re benign and they don’t become skin cancer or premalignant skin lesions. But because some skin cancers such as melanoma can look like age spots, you should ask your doctor to examine your skin during your annual checkup.
However, age spots won’t vanish. Fortunately, you can make them less noticeable with a little help from horseradish and vinegar. Mix together one teaspoon of grated horseradish root, 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon vinegar, and 3 drops of rosemary essential oil .This mixture will exfoliate the top layer of your skin. Dab it onto your age spots with a cotton swab once or twice a day. Stop once your spots have lightened noticeably.
If your age spots aren’t too dark or large, over-the-counter skin-bleaching creams containing hydroquinone can help. One good product is Lumnaderm that lightens skin and eliminates unsightly age spots, blemishes and hyperpigmentation.
You can also ward off age spots by wearing sunscreen and taking a multivitamin that contains free radical fighting antioxidants like vitamins C and E. Check out www.lumnaderm.com for more information.

Where can I buy Horseradish or Wasabi Root?
My girlfriend wants horseradish and or wasabi. We are both celiacs and cannot, or will not eat many foods. Commercial horseradish uses distilled vinegar which we wont eat. I want to make horseradish for her using cider vinegar.
Wasabi is another problem. I can only find the powder which has corn starch. An ingredient we try to avoid. Again I am looking for a source for wasabi root.
I have a friend who grows horseradish but will not be able to get any of that until the snow melts. Where can I buy these roots on line, or in NE Ohio. Thanks!
I will add I have looked in local groceries and health food stores with no luck. I have yet to look at the local Whole Foods.
Okay, I called my local Whole Foods, and they have horseradish, no wasabi though.
Horseradish, fresh is available in most produce sections of your local grocery store.
Wasabi root is rare and seldom found in any form but powder and then often it really is not wasabi
good luck
Cruisin’ for an infusion
Vodka is the spirit most tony ’tenders love to hate. Even more scorn is heaped on flavored vodkas, an attitude not shared by the booze-buying public. You have only to look at the relative shelf space allotted to vodka, flavored and straight, as opposed to, say, gin at your local spirit emporium.

Here are some more information for Rose Water:

The Beautiful Scent Of Roses
The rose is the first flower whose perfume has been recorded. Undoubtedly many other scented flowers existed before those records were made, but, being inferior, they were disregarded. The historians of perfumery tell us also that the rose was the first flower from which any form of perfume was made, and that Avicenna, an illustrious Arabian doctor, discovered the art of extracting perfume from flowers by distillation. He made his first experiments on R. centifolia (the Cabbage Rose), and so invented rose-water. The sweetness of rose scent is mentioned by the earliest Greek and Roman writers.
Nature provides a plant with blossoms as part of its reproductive system. These flowers must attract insects, and in order that they may do so they have perfume and showy petals. Many sweetly scented roses have less attractive colouring; perhaps they do not need both, or perhaps they inherit the defect from some ancestor.
Fragrance is expected of roses, and it is one of their greatest attractions. A rose with only faint perfume is no less beautiful, but it is certainly less alluring. The truest, simplest, and least complex love of flowers is found in the man or woman who grows just a few plants of this and that, in a purely unscientific way, and does not know the names of more than two or three of them.
Hand him or her a rose. There will be little caring for form. Size and colour will be admired, but before there will be time to express an opinion that bloom will have been smelt. Does that happen with a daisy, a dahlia, a hibiscus, a chrysanthemum, a camellia, or a gladiolus? Perfume is expected of a rose.
Perfume In Modern Roses
It is commonly said that modern roses lack the perfume of older sorts. Excluding R. damascena, such a statement does not stand investigation. It is extremely rare to find any modern rose scentless; there are a few, but there were also some among the old varieties. Actually some had distinctly unpleasant odours, for example R. foetida. This species has been responsible for altering the type of perfume in some roses of today. Their fragrance is no longer unpleasant but has definitely changed.
Although modern roses are just as rich in fragrance as the older types, few people realize that perfume has become more varied. Once the rich, sweet damask perfume was almost universal, differing only in intensity among popular roses from one sort to another. Then came the Tea Rose and its typical perfume. The hybridization of the two types brought the Hybrid Tea and a blending of the perfumes. Some of the progeny had nearly the damask perfume, some almost the tea perfume and the majority an intermediate type.
Oil Of Roses
Essential, or volatile, oils are highly aromatic, and sufficiently soluble in water to impart their odour and taste to it. In flowers they are mainly in the petals; there is a little in the pollen and stamens. They volatilize quickly and easily. Tiny particles are released under the influence of moisture, sun, light, changes of temperature, and maturity of the bloom.
Some varieties of roses make more of these oils than others, and they differ slightly in composition; hence the variations in intensity and type of fragrance. Usually, the double roses hold their fragrance longer because more of the petal surfaces are hidden and the oil volatilizes more slowly.
As a bloom unfolds and exposes its pistil and stamens to insects for pollination, it not only increases its attractiveness by more fully displaying its colourful petals, but it becomes more strongly perfumed. Even indoors, roses increase their scent as they open. Blooms displayed on show benches have usually lost a great proportion of their fragrance, due to being kept in cool rooms and to being sprayed with water.
The rose is indeed beautiful to look at and just as beautiful to smell. Grow roses and you will have these wonderful qualities in your garden all year round.
