From Pearl Beads to Pearl Necklace – a Step by Step Tutorial
Pearl necklaces are great jewelry for women of all ages and professions. Many people love pearl jewelry, as it is inexpensive and affordable. Pearl jewelry can be worn at all occasions and it gives the wearer, an aesthetic look. If you have some high quality pearl beads, you can make your own pearl necklace easily. Even though you have a pearl necklace, it is important to know how to make it because it will help you when you have to restring the necklace at least once in two years. Though it is easy to make a pearl necklace, you cannot simply join the pearls together with a string. There must be a knot between two pearls and this knot helps prevent abrasion of pearls. The basic tools that you need are a white silk string, beading needle, scissors, and heavy hook. Place all the beads on a soft cloth once you are ready.
Take about 90cm of the string if you are going to make a pearl necklace of 16cm. Thread the string through the needle and tie the ends of the string. Now the length of the string is halved.
Now, start stringing all the pearls one by one to the string.
On one side of the clasp, thread the needle through the hole. This clasp is close to the last pearl and it prevents the pearls from falling down. It is now time to do the knotting.
Bend the string to form a circle between pearl and clasp and thread the needle through the circle formed with the string. Now a knot is made between the needle and the clasp. At the other end of the string, connect a heavy hook so that the string is made tight.
Next, you have to start putting knots between every two pearls. Again, bend a circle between the pearl next to the clasp and the next pearl and thread the needle through the circle to form the knot.
Pull the knots tight at each step and continue putting knots until you reach the last two pearls. Thread needle through both the pearls at the end and continue threading the needle into the hole that is on the other side of the clasp. Now, put a knot between the pearl and clasp. Make the last knot with the last pearl and make sure it is tight.
Cut off the string at the end of the knot and you have a beautiful pearl necklace in your hands. Now, you have to apply clear nail polish at the last knot to secure the knot.
If you string pearls together for the first time, you may not have a perfect necklace, but as you practice more and more, you will get to know how to put the knots. Perfection of pearl knotting is possible only through practice and patience.

Antique Door Knobs – Open The Way To Innovative Design
Surprisingly, there was a time when homeowners couldn’t wait to trade in their ornate knobs for faceless ones with smooth finishes of nickel, copper and brass. The engraved faces and glistening glass of the old style of door knobs was suddenly passé and thousands of door knobs ended up in the garbage dumps of cities throughout the world.
If only we had known then what we know now. Today, antique door knobs are all the rage in designer homes. The more ornate finishes of homes, complete with crown molding, wainscoting and six paneled doors beg for the homier look of antique door knobs.
While original antique door knobs can now command hundreds of dollars on the open market, many manufacturers have jumped into the marketplace with replicas of antique door knobs as well as new designs that capture the age-old look many homeowners demand.
These new manufactures have helped make antique door knobs, at least replicas of them, much more affordable for those wanting to match their hardware with their décor. Not only can you find terrific looking replicas and new manufactures, but also you can find a wide assortment of other hardware, ranging from keyhole covers and thumbturns to skeleton keys and strikers.
Strikers, you say? Why replace those? Nothing destroys the illusion of the old school when something glaringly modern lies just beyond the edge. If you’re going to redo a door by adding antique door knobs, there’s no sense in having a modern striker on the door jam. Thankfully, designers have already thought this through and most antique door knobs have matching strikers that will work for nearly any door, even those that have a lock and thumbturns.
Before you buy a striker separately, make sure your antique door knobs don’t already have them in the kit. Many new manufactures include the strike plate as well as the face plate, so you don’t have to purchase the strike plate on the side.
However, actual antique door knobs usually don’t include the original strike plate, so you’ll probably have to buy one if you’re installing originals.
While you can certainly pick up antique door knobs in brass, copper, silver or other more modern finishes, you may want to change the look entirely and go with something less common. One popular finish is hammered copper that has an oil-rubbed bronze finish to it. This look has a lot of texture and depth to it, giving it a turn of the century appearance.
The same is true with some patterned mortise locks. These use lost wax castings to create very intricate patterns with lots of visual interest. These work well with antique door knobs that have ornate designs on the knob, such as the face of a lion, a train or other artful finish.
Finally, you can always go with glass antique door knobs. Multifaceted glass knobs come in a number of colors and styles, something to match any modern home, looking for old-world charm in the little things that are so important when turning a house into a home.

Antique silver plated copper tea set inscribed with a cat PS and a crown.?
I recently acquired a antique 1874 dated silver plated copper tea set about 15 pieces. Platters, tea cups, ashtray, heaters, etc. On the back and bottoms of them there is a cat like figure then a PS then a crown engraved. I was curious about any information I can get on this stuff. Any good research sites, value anything I can learn about it.
No there are no other letters or anything but as I looked closer it is as if the P and S are in two seperate boxes. I googled Paul Storr and the letters I have are in a different font they are fancy, but I dont know what the font is called. Also, under the symbols and stuff there is silver on copper written.
The ‘cat like’ figure is possibly the imperial lion denoting it is sterling silver, the crown denotes it was assayed in Sheffield and the PS the maker. If you are very very lucky and your makers mark is for Paul Storr then you have a fortune on your hands is there a single letter stamped on it as well?
