Would you use the memory pill if you were hoping to alleviate the stress of a memory?

On 60 minutes there was a discussion about whether this pill should be used or not. If one had a rape that caused them great stress and pain, would this pill be applicable or should they simply learn to cope with their traumas naturally?

The 60 minutes show you were refering to talked about the use of the chemical propranolol. Propranolol’s normal use is is that of; a beta-blocker, antihypertensive, antianginal, and an antiarrhythmatic. I believe this medicine should not be used off-label for “memory erasion.” I dont even believe in that anyways. There are 1000’s of other chemicals that could be used in the situation of a post-traumatic event. MDMA, methylene dioxy-methylamphetamine showed great promise back in the 80’s of alleviating these post-traumatic memories and stressors. The government thinks differently though, and it is now a schedule 1 substance. I personally think that an anti-hypertensive should not be given to a person with potentially no hypertension, in some hope that it will block memories.
