Sore Throat Home Remedies and Treatment Tips
Sore throat is discomfort, pain, or scratchiness in the throat. Sore throats are common. Most of the time the soreness is worse in the morning and improves as the day progresses. Sore throat is a symptom of many medical disorders. Infections cause the majority of sore throats and are contagious. Infections are caused either by viruses such as the flu, the common cold, mononucleosis, or by bacteria such as strep, mycoplasma, or hemophilus. Pharyngitis is a painful inflammation of the pharynx, and is colloquially referred to as a sore throat. Infection of the tonsils, tonsillitis may occur simultaneously. Most sore throats are caused by a virus and go away on their own in about a week. Sore throat, sometimes the tonsils or surrounding parts of the throat are inflamed. Either way, removing the tonsils to try to prevent future sore throats is not recommended for most children.
Sometimes breathing through the mouth will cause a sore throat in the absence of any infection. During the months of dry winter air, some people will wake up with a sore throat most mornings. This usually disappears after having something to drink. Strep throat is the most common bacterial cause of sore throat. Because strep throat can occasionally lead to rheumatic fever, antibiotics are given. Strep throat often includes a fever (greater than 101°F), white draining patches on the throat, and swollen or tender lymph glands in the neck. Children may have a headache and stomach pain. Sore throat is less likely to be strep throat if it is a minor part of a typical cold (with runny nose, stuffy ears, cough, and similar symptoms). Strep can’t be accurately diagnosed by looking at the throat alone. It requires a laboratory test.
Home Remedies and Treatment Tips of Sore Throat
1.Get plenty of rest and drink a lot of fluids.
2.Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain relief.
3.Suck on a zinc lozenge. The jury is still out, but some studies show zinc can relieve sore throats and other cold symptoms.
4.Gargle with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of water).
5.Suck on throat lozenges or hard candy.
6.Use a humidifier.
7. You can also try a warm chamomile poultice: Mix 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers into 1 or 2 cups boiling water; steep for five minutes, then strain.
8.Salt plaster may also help provide relief. Mix 2 cups sea salt with 5 to 6 tablespoons lukewarm water. The salt should be damp.
9.Try steam inhalations to ease the pain. Run very hot water in a sink. With a towel draped over your head to trap the steam, lean over the sink while the water is running. Breathe deeply through your mouth and nose for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat several times a day.
10.You can also used 10 drops of the essential oil in 30 mm of water and apply on the underarms.
11.Use of mango bark is highly beneficial in sore throat. Make a gargle by mixing 10 ml of the fluidextract with 125-150 ml of water.

I have been ill a number of months now, colds, flus, sore throats. Dr says i have just been unlucky?
and managed to pick up a number of virus’s that have been doing the rounds. 2 weeks ago i developed a sore throat and sore chest, i visited the dr. and she said my infection had spread into my chest, i was prescribed anti-inflammatories. I have finished the course and my throat and chest is still hurting.
I cannot take anti biotics because it is a virus. The doc said not to worry unless i had difficulty breathing or was coughing up blood.
Sorry to go on but i am getting depressed with feeling ill for so long. What would you do?!
I have an appetite and am eating healthily, getting lots of rest and drinking lots of fluids. What else can i do to fight this!???
(ps i have a rubbish immune system from hodgekins disease which i am now in remission from)
All you can do in addition is perhaps take multivitamins and possibly Echinacea (helps to fight off colds and flu). Hope you feel well soon hun x ps if you notice someone cough or sneeze, try to keep well away from them.
